Biology - Experienced - Joy Killough
Joy Killough teaches Pre-AP Biology and AP Biology at Tivy High School in Kerrville, Texas.
She is the Science Chair for Kerrville ISD and works with science K-12. She earned a Master of Science in
Biology from The University of Houston/ Clear Lake. In her years as a science educator she has had the
privilege of working with students of all ages from elementary through college. She serves as a consultant
to the College Board for AP Biology, PreAP Biology, and Vertical Teaming in Science and has been a reader for
the AP Biology exam. Joy was a participant in The University of Texas Research Experience for Teachers Program,
funded by the NSF. Joy has been recognized for innovative teaching including the Texas Medical Association's
Sarah and Ernest Butler Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, and the Intel Innovations in Teaching Award.
In 2006 she received the first Susan Talkmitt Science Motivator Award from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute
Undergraduate Fellows at Texas Tech University. She was one of three secondary education finalists for 2006
Texas Teacher of the Year and is the recipient of the NABT 2007 Outstanding Biology Teacher Award for the
State of Texas. She is currently serving as President of the Texas Association of Biology Teachers.
