Biology - Experienced: Joy Killough

Joy Killough teaches AP Biology, IB Biology, and Accelerated Science at Westwood High School in Austin, Texas. In her 32 years as a science educator she has had the privilege of working with students of all ages from elementary through college. She has been a consultant to the College Board since 1999 and has served as a reader for the AP Biology exam. Consulting has taken Ms. Killough throughout the United States where she enjoys sharing and exchanging stories and lessons with other educators. Ms. Killough has been named the 2012 Texas Academy of Science Outstanding Texas Educator. She is a 2012 finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching for the State of Texas. Ms. Killough has been recognized for innovative teaching including the Texas Medical Association's Sarah and Ernest Butler Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, and the Intel Innovations in Teaching Award. She received the first Susan Talkmitt Science Motivator Award from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Undergraduate Fellows at Texas Tech University. She was a finalist for 2006 Texas Teacher of the Year and was the recipient of the NABT 2007 Outstanding Biology Teacher Award for the State of Texas. She is a Past President of the Texas Association of Biology Teachers. Joy has earned a BA in Biological Science and a Master of Science in Biology from The University of Houston/ Clear Lake.
