Computer Science: Charles Powell
Chuck Powell has been a high school science and computer science teacher for for 32 years. The last 12 of those years have been at Green Mountain HIgh School in Lakewood, Colorado, where he has taught AP Physics since 2009 and AP Computer Science since 2008. From 2013-2016, he was involved with the College Board?s AP Computer Science Principles Pilot. Since then, he has served as a Reader and Consultant for AP CSP.
Every year since 2013, he has had at least one female student earn the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Award for the State of Colorado.
Chuck is the Academy Coordinator at his school. The Academy Program consists of 14 Pathways arranged into 4 Academies, and students are encouraged to earn pathway endorsements beyond the requirements for graduation. In his role as Coordinator, Chuck defines the requirements for Pathway endorsements, counsels students in earning endorsements, and arranges mock interviews, job shadows and internships.
Chuck is also President of the Colorado Chapter of CSTA. In this capacity, he works to provide an environment for computer science educators to cooperate and to collaborate, and to promote computer science education in the State of Colorado.
In 2016, Chuck was recognized by the Colorado Technology Association as the Technology Teacher of the Year.
