Richard Piercy has a teaching career that encompasses 31 years at the Secondary level
(Biology, Chemistry, Life Science, Physical Science, Integrated Science, and AP Biology) and 17 years at
the Community College level (Biology for Majors and Non-majors, Marine Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology).
Richard has been an active member of T3 (Teachers Teaching with Technology) for the last ten years.
As a "teacher teaching teachers," he has presented numerous workshops to both math and science teachers
focusing on collecting, displaying, and analyzing data using hand-held technologies including graphing
calculators, CBL2 and Lab Pro interface units, and science sensors. Richard also serves as a College Board
Consultant. Most recently, he developed a two-day workshop for the College Board entitled:
Pre-AP Strategies in Science - Data Collection in Inquiry-Based Biology. Richard's hobbies include surfing
(he grew up in Hawaii - Long Boards Rule), fishing, and photography. His wife, Karen, is an artist specializing
in oil painting. His son, Isaac, recently graduated from California Polytechnic University (Pomona) with a BA
in Music Performance, and hopes to attend UC Davis in the fall to pursue an MA in Musicology.
